Bugesera, June 14, 2022: The Ministry of Health through Rwanda Biomedical Centre, continues its one week campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking at Gitagata rehabilitation centre in Bugesera district.

Gitagata Rehabilitation Centre welcomes street children and minors under 18 who have either committed petty crimes or fallen into drug abuse. They are rehabilitated and given technical and vocational education training in order to make a contribution to our Nation Building.
 

Dynamo Ndacyayisenga, on behalf of the management of alcohol and drug use disorders at Rwanda Biomedical centre, emphasised the role of educators and the community in raising and promoting health among the youth. Furthermore, he reminded the youth to not only fight against drug abuse but also to develop a culture of self-love and health practices.

 
“It hurts to see the youth fall into the trap of drug abuse. Nevertheless, we are grateful to have a country that loves you, cares about your wellbeing and is able to offer you the support you need such as the support you receive here at this rehabilitation centre.”

 

The Gitagata rehabilitation centre accommodates 342 young people, among them 154 are females while children under 18 years are 188 young people. The Gitagata Rehabilitation centre has capacity to accommodate 450 young people.
