World Bank President thrilled by Rwanda’s Drone initiative

World Bank President, Dr Jim Yong kim was thrilled by Rwanda’s drone initiative, invented to deliver blood at different hospitals in the country in the shortest time possible.

“Using drones to deliver blood is truly a life-saving innovation and a credit to Rwanda’s leadership. It will greatly improve health outcomes,” said Dr.Jim Yong Kim.

The World Bank President accompanied by the Minister of Health, Dr. Diane Gashumba took a 15 minute tour around the drone port located in Muhanga district yesterday. He was taken through the way the drone works and he later switched a red button and launched a drone to witness how it delivers blood.

The World Bank Boss said the drone experience should serve as a lesson to the worlds on how to expand and address health issues. He mentioned examples of how technology can be used in quickly transporting vaccines for snake bites, deliver medical supplies for heart attacks and strokes, name it.

On August 14, 2016, Rwanda ushered in drones to assist in delivering medical supplies and blood to 21 health facilities countrywide. The drones save patients the waiting while medical supplies are overdue because of the long road channels.

“Drones are helping the Rwanda people meet their aspirations,” said The World Bank Boss.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jim Yong Kim was thrilled by Rwanda’s community health workers’ initiative.
