Ministry of Health inaugurates Indoor Residual Spraying to Combat Malaria

Ministry of health has inaugurated Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) with the New insectide Actellic, with intentions of combating Malaria. The National launch took place on November 16, 2016 in Gatsibo district, Eastern province where the intervention will see one thousand and twenty five (1025) units sprayed.

At the launch, Minister of Health, Dr. Diane Gashumba called upon residents to combine different interventions in order to combat malaria.

“All Rwandans should give the due value to the different interventions the government is putting in the fight against malaria. Spraying alone cannot provide a whole prevention package in fighting malaria, people  should sleep under Long-lasting  treated insecticide nets, environmental hygiene as well as seek immediate treatment at the first malaria symptom,” advised Gashumba.

The Gatsibo exercise comes as a pioneer plan to practice IRS in over 8 districts with high Malaria burden in the near future, as a Malaria prevention measure.
