This current issue came when the world and Africa, in particular, are dealing with the Ebola outbreak in the central African region mostly in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) near its border with Rwanda. The Ebola outbreak was announced by the WHO and later on confirmed by the DRC authorities followed by different reports of outbreak casualties. Rwanda has been until now spared by the disease. The Rwandan health authorities acted rapidly to prevent the outbreak from entering Rwanda through multiple preventive and preparedness strategies. Multilateral meetings and policies were prepared, simulation exercises were organized, and open communications to the general public were carried out for implementing all necessary measures in the prevention of Ebola in Rwanda.

This issue has come after Rwanda successfully hosted the 20th International Conference on HIV/AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA2019) on 2-7 December 2019. At the Conference, 20 key sessions, engaging policymakers and implementors from across Africa and beyond and over 10 000 health professionals and 250 media and journalists gathered together to address AIDS and STIs as global health challenges.

This issue highlights Rwanda's efforts and global progress in the fight against COVID-19. The content covers the use of robotics and their applications in the fight against COVID-19 in Rwanda, the global trend of COVID-19 treatment, the COVID-19 Rwanda response updates, the new massive testing using pooled testing, the lessons learned from the fight against the pandemic and easing lockdown restrictions during COVID-19. As you read this issue, I would like to note that each of us is called to play a role in responding to this outbreak.

Cervical cancer ranks among the leading causes of death worldwide [1]. Cervical cancer remains a significant global health challenge, with 570,000 new cases reported in 2018 and an age-standardized mortality rate of 6.9 per 100,000 [2]. As of 2020, there were approximately 604,000 new cases and 342,000 deaths from cervical cancer globally [3].
